As you can see here there are the men who were present during Operation Desert Storm.
Operation Desert Storm took place on August 2,1990. It is otherwise known as the first Gulf War. It started when the dictator of Iraq, Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait as an act of agression. Iraq was very well equipted due to the United States massive military aid during the eight-year was against Iran. This gave them the fourth largest army in the world. The invasion of Kuwait posed an immediate threat due to the fact that it is a major supplier of oil to United States. This also alarmed Kuwaits neighbor Saudi Arabia. If Saudi Arabia was to fall under Saddam Hussein's power he would have control of one-fifth of the nations oil supply.
Towards the end of 1990 the U.S acted with Saudi Arabia in a deployment known as Operation Desert Shield. In this act over 500,000 soldiers were placed in Saudi Arabia as a defense mechanism in case the Iraqi's attacked. This was not enought so the U.S. sought further multilateral help from the United Nations Security Council. Iraq was an ally of the Soviet Union, who held a veto over any potential UN military action. Surprisingly, the USSR did not try to block the United Stated thus, making them condem Iraq and helped form a coalition to fight Saddam militarily.
The president at the time George H.W. Bush sought support of the public, which agreed with his actions. As soon as they were prepared and ready they gave Saddam Hussein an ultimatum to leave Kuwait by January 15, 1991 or face a full attack by the multinational forces.
When January 15 came and still no response from Saddam, Desert Sheild then became Desert Storm and was initiated the next night. Iraqian military bases started being bombed for the next several weeks. There was as much as 2500 mission on many days. The Iraqies finally responded by launching Scud missiles at American military barracks in Saudi Arabia and Israel. By attacking Israel it was a clear statement from Hussein to persuade all neighboring Arab nations to join the Iraqi cause. The Arab nations were managed to remain in opposition to Iraq through intense diplomatic pressure and negotiation.
